Remnants of a great war

How did the experience of the 20th century change our perception of war? Will large-scale armed conflicts disappear over time? What do wars of the 21st century represent, and are there effective ways to prevent them? John Mueller, in his book, refers to the history of war to justify what may seem like a paradoxical conclusion: war as a political instrument is rapidly becoming obsolete. The author views the First and Second World Wars as pivotal moments in history when the European community came to realize that war is no longer an inevitable and necessary phenomenon of social life. This new approach to interstate conflicts, along with other factors, including economic ones, pushed developed countries to avoid them. According to Mueller, the complete disappearance of war and its transition into the category of outdated institutions (similar to duels or slavery) is entirely possible, but it requires serious international efforts and competent governments.
