Yuri Ivanovich Pimenov (1903-1977)-a key figure in the history of Russian art of the 20th century. A graduate of VKhUTEMAS, an adherent of the aesthetics of German expressionism and an active member of the Sacleys Society in the 1920s, in the 1930s Pimenov is criticized for formalism. Turning to the traditions of new French painting, the artist continues to search and now defines his own manner as a "realistic impressionism". Opening new plots and topics, in the 1960s, Pimenov became an expressor of the ideas of the Khrushchev thaw and plastics of Soviet modernism.
The book publishes an autobiography of the artist, the memoirs of his daughter Tatyana Pimenova, a letter from Irakli Andronnikov, memoirs Julia Vesky and director Maria Knebel, first published in the full author"s edition. The texts of contemporaries of Yuri Pimenov illustrate the artists little -known sketches, and the album at the end of the book will help the wide reader create an idea of the main areas of work of the master in painting and graphics, theater and cinema, book design and sculpture
