The book of the outstanding historian and phenomenologist of the religion of Mirchi Eliade (1907-1986) "Yoga: Immortality and Freedom" has long become a classic in studies of such a fundamental and unique phenomenon as Indian yoga. The author represents yoga as a holistic, multifaceted, comprehensive spiritual universe, different elements of which correspond to different cultural levels, states of consciousness and even layers of traditional society. Eliade traces the origins of yoga among the autochthonous, pre -Aryan population of India, focuses first of all on its Projectic "and non -classical branches, concerns the yoga of the Yoga with shamanism, which is important in the context of his scientific work, draws parallels between Indian yoga and the spiritual traditions of other regions Mira.
