Relations with Apollinaria Suslova is a difficult period in the life and work of Dostoevsky. At first it was friendship and affection, which grew into a novel, and then into relationships that can be characterized as “love-adavism”. Suslov is considered the prototype of some of Dostoevsky’s characters - Polina in the “player”, Nastasya Filippovna in “Idiot”, Grushenka in the “Karamazov brothers” and others.
According to contemporaries, Polina (as close and acquaintances called her) in Dostoevsky rather her fan than a great writer. She used an acquaintance with him to publish in the journal “Time” her story “As long as the readers did not cause interest. “She demands from people everything, all perfection, ... she himself eliminates herself from the slightest duties for people” Dostoevsky wrote about her and, nevertheless, continued to look for and achieve her love. The collection “Years of Proximity with Dostoevsky” included the diary of Suslova, her letters to her lover and the story “Alien and Her”, which she wrote about their relationship
