Archbishop John San Francisian (in the world - Prince Dmitry Alekseevich Shakhovskaya) was born in Moscow on August 23, 1902. He studied in Russia, at the Imperial Alexander Lyceum, and abroad - at the University of Louvens.
I left Russia in 1920. He received monasticism on Athos in 1926 and was sent to the theological Institute of St. Sergius in Paris. In 1932, he was appointed rector of the St. Vladimir Church in Berlin, where he serves until 1945, making (before the start of the war) missionary travels throughout Europe and developing publishing. During the war, the publishing case is liquidated, all the books published by him, including even the Bible, are confiscated.
At the end of the war, Archimandrite John moved to Paris, and in 1946 to the United States of America, where in 1947 it became a bishop of the American Orthodox Church, and in 1961 - an archbishop.
The lord died on May 30, 1989.
Archbishop John is known as the author of many theological works, conversations and sermons, published in many languages ​​of the peoples of the world. He also belongs to several poetic collections, which served as the basis for this book.
