The book "Varial Light" published by Jer. Robert Belle (O.C.D) in 1987 is a classic work on the history of the East Syrian mystical tradition of the VII-VIII centuries. For this period, in Mesopotamia, on the territory of modern southeastern Turkey, Iraq, southwestern Iran and Qatar, there was a heyday of the monastic movement associated with the names of Sahdon, Dadisho Katar, Isaac Nineviysky, Simeon D-Taibuta, John Dalchan and Joseph Khazzai. These mystical-ascetic writers perceived and developed the teachings of the Egyptian and Greek fathers about contemplation, deification, vision of divine light and formulated a number of provisions that anticipated the Palamite disputes of the XIV century.
The publication is addressed to all those who are interested in the mystical-ascetic teaching of the Orthodox Church and the ancient Eastern Christian churches
