Another pearl in the Golden Ring of Russia is an ancient Kostroma, based, according to historian Vasily Nikitich Tatishchev, in 1152 Yuri Dolgoruky. This is a typical patriarchal city of the Russian province, which, despite the historical ups and downs, has preserved its unique look. In 1213, the city, then located on the right bank of the Volga, was burned during the princely feuds. Costroma was re-ruined at the Batyev invasion in the late 1230s. The Grand Duke of Vladimir and Kyiv Yaroslav Vsevolodovich, the first among the Russian princes received a label to reign in the Horde, rebuilt the Kostroma again, transferring it to the left bank of the Volga. In 1246, he established the Kostroma specific principality, having planted his youngest son Vasily in Kostroma, who was barely five years old. After 120 years, in 1364, the Principality of Kostroma became part of Moscow.
In the XIII -XV centuries, fortified monasteries arise around the city that protect the approaches to the city - Holy Trinity Ipatievsky, Epiphany, Nikolo -Babaevsky, is being built by the Kostroma Kremlin with the first stone cathedral - Uspensky. And in 1613, it was in the Ipatievsky monastery that the event important for Russia took place - Mikhail Fedorovich Romanov, the first representative of the Romanov dynasty, was married here.
Modern Kostroma is distinguished by unique architectural ensembles of ancient monasteries and beautiful temples. In total, there are about twenty -acting temples in the city, many of which are real masterpieces of Russian Orthodox architecture. Two of them are presented in this issue -the church of the Resurrection of Christ on the Debre and the Ilyinsky (the Nativity of Christ) the temple on the settlement. We will also talk about the Holy Trinity Ipatievsky and the Epiphany-anastasian of the monasteries-the main shrines of not only Kostroma, but also our entire country
