Rostov the Great is perhaps the largest pearl in the Golden Ring of Russia, one of the oldest cities in Central Russia, the first references to which dates back to the 86th year. Since 991, it has been the center of the spread of Christianity in North-Eastern Russia, and before the invasion of the Mongol-Tatar hordes served as the political and economic center of the northeastern regions of Kievan Rus. Numerous monuments of Orthodox architecture, the unique ringing of the bells of the Rostov belfry, museums and expositions attract numerous pilgrims and tourists from around the world.
The heart of the city is the Rostov Kremlin and the Assumption Cathedral. The first temple at this place was built in 991. To this day, the building, erected in the middle of the 16th century, has survived. In 2010, regular services were resumed in the cathedral.
It is necessary to visit the Spaso -Yakovlevsky Dimitriev Monastery -one of the most striking monuments of church classicism preserved in the province. And, of course, you can’t ignore the Trinity -Sergius of the Barnetsky Monastery, erected in honor of the most revered Russian saint - the Monk Sergey Radonezh, who was a native of these places.
