The book is dedicated to the outstanding hierarch - the new martyr of the Russian Orthodox Church of the times of persecution by Archbishop Nicholas (Dobronravov) He was the closest assistant to His Holiness Patriarch Tikhon and the locomotives of the Patriarchal throne of Metropolitan Peter (Polyansky) in the affairs of the church administration. The latter called him among his possible deputies. On the basis of unpublished archival documents, as well as open sources, the main events of the life of the saint are traced, the background of historical events is represented, of which he was a participant. The evolution of his views is shown, which allowed the author to draw general conclusions on the problem of correlating the phenomena of movement for the church update of the early twentieth century and the renewal split of the 1920-30s
