The publication in the Russian language of Joseph Ratzinger (Pope at the rest of Benedict XVI) “Theology of the Liturgy” is dedicated to the 90th birthday of this outstanding hierarch and theologian of the Roman Catholic Church. The labor published is dedicated to one of the main (along with the doctrine of the Church) of the topics of his scientific creativity and pastoral care, which is especially significant for the Orthodox believers - the topic of worship. The author manages to organically combine the analysis of urgent problems, the modern formulation of questions, the historical and systematic approach based on the Holy Scriptures and the tradition of the Church, on the wealth of not only Western, but also eastern patristic literature.
Joseph Ratzinger was born on April 16, 1927 in the Bavarian settlement of Marctl-Am-Inn. After the study of theology and philosophy in Freysing and Munich, at different times, a professor of dogma at the universities of Bonn, Münster, Tubingen and Regensburg was at different times.
As an expert took part in the work of the second Vatican Council. A significant milestone of his church ministry was the stay at the Archbishop’s Department of Munich and Freysing (1977-1981) and as the prefect of the Vatican Congregation of the belief (1981-2005) In 2005, Cardinal Ratzinger was elected to the Roman throne, which he voluntarily left in 2013
