The liturgical charters even at the stages of their formation knew attempts to endow individual Christian holidays with the properties of special greatness and solemnity. This idea acquired the most completed form in the Russian Orthodox Church, where 12 of the most important celebrations were classified as a separate group. Despite the objective individual specificity, they are characterized by a number of general features, which are a unique source in the history of worship, as well as liturgical hymnography, hagiography and eortology.
In this training manual compiled by the teacher of the Sretenskological Seminary, a comparative diachronomonal-synchronous description of the body of the twelve holidays is presented according to the following signs: the event of the holiday, the history of its establishment, the patristic exegetes of the holiday, its dynamics in the Orthodox worship, as well as in the non-Orthodox tradition (for example, in the Dochallkon and Western) and Nek. etc.
