The book presents a critical analysis of some current trends in religious studies, which, according to the author, are due to the reception of methodological relativism, characteristic of postmodernism of the second half of the 20th century. The main object of criticism is a concept typical of postmodern discourse in religious studies, according to which such a phenomenon as religion, did not exist until the Western religious scholars have “constructed” it, and that, accordingly, the traditional science of religion should be considered discipline, which does not describe reality, but tells of it the most invented fictions. Criticizing this position, the author shows that, firstly, such statements are incorrect from a historical point of view (that is, the idea of "religion" and "religions", and even more so the phenomenon of religion, existed long before the actual science of religion), and in -In, the idea of "designing religion" is based on a methodological error (intentional or unintentional), which consists in the identification of a certain phenomenon and its research at the scientific and theoretical level.
