This book is the first in Russian science a systematic study of disputes about the veneration of the name of God, who originated at the beginning of the 20th century on Athos and came to Russia, where prominent church and public figures, theologians and philosophers participated in them. Restoring the historical outline of the polemics in detail on the material of previously unknown archival data, the author pays the main attention to the theological understanding of the problems of disputes. The author pays particular attention to the theory and practice of Jesus prayer in Byzantine and Russian monasticism. Consistently analyzing the basic works of supporters and opponents of Imayslavia, he critically evaluates the positions of both sides in the light of the tradition of the Church.
The book received high marks of specialists and was awarded the Makariyevsky Prize.
