The main task of the book, according to Father Pavel Florensky, was to establish the greatest importance of the cult (sacraments, worship, rites) for Orthodoxy. To the cult of the church and its basis and the center - the Divine Eucharist - rise all the shrines of life, thoughts and deeds of Christian. Everything comes from the cult, which is then mentioned in culture: philosophy, science, forms of public, art. The cult (and its foundation is the sacrament of communion) is a sacred and only basis for living thought, creativity, the public. Therefore, those theological systems that evade the recognition of the central significance of the sacraments, worship and sacred symbols-explosions for the church, life and philosophy threaten in troubles.
