The Byzantine spiritual writer, blessed John Mosch, at the end of the VI century, along with his student Sophronius (future Patriarch Jerusalem) made a great journey through the monasteries of the Middle East. Having walked around almost all the famous Palestinian and Syrian monastery, they visited Egypt, penetrated south to the glorious Thevaida and even a distant oasis, everywhere looking at the ascetic life and studying it with love. The information they collected compiled a book, received the name "Spiritual meadow"
