This book is the most complete collection of saints and narratives of Orthodox holidays and icons of the Mother of God in Russian. It was written in the 80s of the last century by the altar of one of the Moscow temples for its children. Now this altar, Archpriest Konstantin Ostrovsky, and the children, of course, have long grown up, and two of them themselves became priests, and one - a bishop.
In those years, it was impossible to even dream of publishing such a book in Russia, but “Perestroika” occurred, censorship restrictions disappeared, and already in 1991 an abbreviated version of the book called “The Life of Saints for Children” was published by 55 thousand copies, And in 1996, 20 thousand copies were reprinted.
Then the collection was significantly expanded under the name “The Lives of the Saints, set forth in St. Demetrius of Rostov,” withstood 4 editions. Now it is still supplemented by a large number of lives of the Holy of the Russian Orthodox Church, who lived in the 20th century, for the most part of the new martyrs and confessors of Russian.
The book is written in a simple language, affordable for children, but without fake for childhood. This is apparently one of the main reasons for its unchanged popularity among readers
