The book includes more than 50 essays about the famous and not so famous holy warriors. Brief information is also given about more than 70 saints, during the lifetime of the former soldiers (including those revered in the church tradition as the Monk or Saints) All descriptions are accompanied by a large number of illustrations (more than 350), many of which are published for the first time. An extensive illustrative series gives an excellent idea of the iconography of each holy warrior for several centuries: starting with the frescoes and mosaics of the early Christian period to icons written by modern icon painters.
