The author’s focus is the history of secularization theory, which has long dominated the sociology of religion and proclaimed the thesis about the incompatibility of modern society and religion. The book in detail the ideas of key theorists of secularization - Tolkottes Parsons, Peter Berger, Brian Wilson, Thomas Lukman, David Martin and others are analyzing. The principles are analyzed on which this theory was built, and criticism, which it has been subjected to the late 1970s. Attempts to renew the theory are discussed in the 80s and 90s of the twentieth century. The reasons that led to the crisis of this theory and its gradual dying in the early 2000s are summarized.
