The topic of the publication directly concerns the problems that are extremely relevant for world Orthodoxy: championship in the Ecumenical Church, Orthodox diaspora, diptych, autocephaly and methods of its proclamation. For the first time, an attempt was made in a detailed study of the development of the doctrine of the primitive bishop in the works of Russian Orthodox theologians, belonging to various jurisdictional areas, and official documents of the Russian Orthodox Church of the 20th century, its comprehensive analysis is carried out. The issue is considered in the context of historical and political conditions in which the Russian Orthodox theologians of different church jurisdictions were located. The development of the doctrine of the primitive bishop in Russian Orthodox theology is compared with ecclesiological reform and the teaching of primacy in the Roman Catholic Church in the 20th century, the issue of mutual influence and intersection of Russian Orthodox and Catholic traditions is investigated.
