The collective monograph is devoted to a comprehensive study of the origin of the concept of championship and the spheres of its use. The study is carried out by the methods of historical, philological, theological, legal and church legal analysis. The authors reveal the ancient origin of the concept of championship, describe its subsequent existence over the Middle Ages, the new and partly of the latest time, analyze the use of the concept of championship in a wide range of sources and, along with other related concepts, such as seniority and chairmanship. Particular attention is paid to modern church discussions around the topic of the championship.
