Archbishop Guri (Karpov, 1814-1882), which is dedicated to the book "Apostle of China", worked for many years in the Beijing Spiritual Mission. He translated the New Testament, psalter, a number of liturgical books into Chinese. Equal -to -the -apostal works of the ascetic brought rich fruits to the Russian Orthodox Church: hundreds of Chinese accepted Orthodoxy.
The Bishop Guri did a lot for the Tauride diocese, which he headed in 1867, becoming a bishop, and later - the Archbishop of Tauride and Simferopol.
"Infinite devotion to his high vocation, meekness, which is only characteristic of the humble wisdom of a deep Christian, hard work to exhaustion - these are the distinctive features of the saint who were inherent in his youth, ”wrote contemporary I.I. Palympsestov.
Saint Guri (Karpov) was glorified in the face of local saints by the decision of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of May 18, 2008.
In the proposed book, in addition to biography, the sermons of Archbishop Guria, who were uttered by him from the Crimean department, as well as teachings at different occasions, are collected. The application publishes prayer and troparia to the saint.
