The author and compiler of this book is a professor at the St. Petersburg State Polytechnic University. Eight years ago, he began the search for his roots along the mother’s line, Derzhavina Natalia Vasilievna, who died in 1942 in blockade Leningrad. Despite the almost complete absence of information about their ancestors, a huge material was collected and studied, consisting of publications in the Nizhny Novgorod diocesan sheets and archival materials.
It was possible to find relatives who for more than 70 years who kept in his family archive the correspondence of the author’s uncle, the priest Nikolai Vasilievich Derzhavin, who passed the prison, the Solovetsky camp and the exile and the executed in 1937 for his ministry in the Russian Orthodox Church. This correspondence is unique, and there was no such author about the presence in Russia of anything like it and the compiler of this book.
The author hopes that the book will be useful not only to church historians and the Nizhny Novgorod local historians, but will also make someone think about the connection of generations, without which there can be neither a happy family nor a strong state.
The original name of the book was changed on the recommendation of the College for the review and expert assessment of the Publishing Council of the Russian Orthodox Church, since the names of the Derzhavin priests were not entered into the Cathedral of New Martyrs and Confessors of the Russian
