The literary editor of the Evenging News (London) appreciated “Sufi” as the most important of the books ever written, putting it in a row with the Bible, the Qur"an and other masterpieces of world literature. From the very moment of its appearance, this work had a huge impact on thinkers in a wide range of intellectual areas, on scientists, psychologists, poets and artists. As it became obvious later, this was the first of more than thirty books aimed at giving readers basic knowledge about the principles of Sufi development. In this first and, perhaps, the main book, the Shah applies to many key elements of the Sufi phenomenon, such as: the principles of Sufi thinking, its connection with Islam, its influence on many outstanding figures in Western history, the mission of Sufi teachers and the use of special teaching stories as tools that allow the mind to act in higher dimensions. But first of all, this is the introduction into a way of thought that is radically different from intellectual and emotional thinking, which opens the way to achieve a higher level of objectivity
