The collection includes the statements and teachings of the blessed Athos elder Joseph Vatopeda (1921-2009), a student of the great ascetic Joseph Isiahast (1897-1959) and the teacher of the elder Ephraim Filofeysky, Archimandrite Ephraim of Vatopeda and many other Athos monks.
The elder was born in Cyprus in a large peasant family and began his monastic path at the age of sixteen. For twelve years he was in obedience to Joseph Isihast. In 1989, he, already an experienced monk, blessed the restoration of monastic life in the ancient Athos monastery of Vatoped. Elder Joseph raised a whole generation of Athos monks and left a rich spiritual heritage to the whole Orthodox world. “Blessed has reached a great degree of love for God and neighbor,” recalled Archimandrite Joseph Vatopesky. - Before those who did not know him, the question arose: how could an illiterate person write sixteen books on spiritual topics? And the answer is simple - according to the grace of God that came from the event of Pentecost. Just as the illiterate fishermen of Christ revived and transformed the universe.
