The Valuna Fortress of the Solovetsky Monastery erected at the turn of the XVI -XVII centuries is an unsurpassed example of Russian defense architecture of the late Middle Ages. For two centuries, she was the center of defense of the Russian North, but at the same time defended the Holy Abode, being one of the most important in Rus" of the centers of the sovereign of the Pog of Motherland. This monograph, based primarily on archival and archaeological sources with the addition of architecture materials, introduces numerous new information about its history and architecture. The detailed story of each element of the fortress is presented: towers, gate, spin, given an analysis of the composition of weapons of the late XVI - XVIII century.
For the first time, the plots erected by the masters Ivan Mikhailov (1582-1583) and the Tryphon Kologrivov (1584-1595) are determined, the metric system of the fortress is established, the building material is calculated (boulders and bricks) The results of the long -term archaeological study of the Solovetsky fortress are summarized: studies of the foundation, northern and southern ditches, flooring for guns in the stoves of plantar combat, the famous Golovlenok prison in the thickness of the fortress wall.
A complete selection of weapons in two centuries has been given, the publication of the manuscript of the suborcerate engineer Ya. V. Vasiliev was given on the preparation of the defense of the fortress in 1790, as well as letters from Archimandrite Alexander about military events in Solovki in 1854-1855.
