Kenosis, the self -abasement of Christ through the vocrate and voluntary acceptance of suffering is one of the key concepts of Christianity. Dirk Uffelmann considers both the Orthodox embodiments of the normative model of positive renunciation of himself, as well as secular imitations to them in Russian culture.

The author explores various sources - from the liturgy to everyday practice - and shows that the model of self -destruction has become important for a wide variety of areas of Russian church life, culture and literature.

In the first of the three volumes, the rhetoric of kenotic Christology is analyzed - the paradox of calling for the imitation of Christ in His self -denial, as well as the metaphorical and metonymic representations of the self -abundance of Christ.

Dirk Uffelmann - German philologist -Russianist, professor of the Institute of Slavic of Gisen University named after Eustus Libikha.

The author of the monograph "Discourse of Vladimir Sorokin" (2022), co -editor of the collections" German philosophical literary criticism of our days" (2001), "elusive context: Russian philosophy in the post -Soviet conditions" (2002)," there, inside: practices of internal colonization In the cultural history of Russia "(2021), as well as the magazine Zeitschrift Fur Slavische Philologie (since 2008)
