The book is a reprint of the collection of 150 chosen conversations of John Chrysostom, compiled by the monk Stefan (Deryabin) of the John-Baptist Monastery of Optina Desert in 1876.
In these conversations, John Chrysostom discusses various religious and social topics, including the carelessness, viciousness of people, the retribution of the coming Last Judgment, about the need to be constantly grateful to God. Archbishop of Constantinople exhortates people from mortal sins: pride, vanity, arrogance, anger, envy, greed, and abbreviations. It instructs people to monitor not only their physical shell (body), but mainly bake about their soul, dirt, the darkness of which cannot be covered with any beautiful and richly decorated clothes. The immoral lifestyle (fornication and drunkenness) is condemned by the archbishop.
