In the history of our Fatherland there are two great dates - the birth of Church Slavonic writing, created by the holy Equal -to -the -Apostles Cyril and Methodius and the appearance of the first printed book, created by the efforts of the great enthusiast by Ivan Fedorov.
It is difficult to find a Russian person who has not heard about saints Cyril and Methodius. The Solun brothers firmly and forever inscribed their names into the history of not only Slavic, but also other peoples of Europe and Asia, which, being involved in the orbit of great Russia, received national writing from it, one way or another associated with Cyrillic.
But the holy brothers were not just the creators of Church Slavonic writing. They are revered by the Orthodox as the Holy Equal -to -the -Apostles Slovenian teachers. Indeed, it is impossible to imagine the current Slavic Orthodox civilizational model without the cardinal impact that Cyril and Methodius had on it. Without a doubt, the Russian, Belarusian, Ukrainian, Serbian, Bulgarian, Czech-Slovenian cultures can be called Kirillo-Mephodiy.
Another famous name in Russian history is the first printer Ivan Fedorov. A native of the Moscow kingdom, he became for Russians, Belarusians and Little Russians the ancestor of the printed word, published such a book fundamental for our culture as “Apostle”, “Psalter”, “ABC” and “Ostrog Bible” - the first complete Bible in Church Slavonic.
