Nowhere in the world, except for Russia, the funeral custom and rite has not developed to such a deep, one might say, virtuosity to which it reaches us, and there is no doubt that our popular character was reflected in this warehouse, with the special, inherent in our nature, worldview. The features of death are terrible and disgusting everywhere, but we dress them with a gorgeous cover, we surround them with the solemn silence of prayer contemplation, we sing a song above them, in which the horror of the amazed nature merges together with love, hope and reverent faith. We do not run from our dead man, we decorate it in the coffin, and pulls us to this coffin - to look at the features of the spirit that left our home, we worship the body and do not refuse to give it the last kiss, and we are standing above him for three days and three nights with Reading, with singing, with church prayer. Our funeral prayers are fulfilled by beauty and greatness, they are prolonged and in no hurry to give the Earth the body touched by the wing - and when you hear them, it seems that the last blessing is not only pronounced over the body, but the great church triumph is performed around it in the very solemn minute of the human being! How understandable and how kind of this solemnity is for the Russian soul!
