Orthodox people have long revered the Blessed Virgin Mary. They express their gratitude and love to the mother of the Savior of mankind in prayers, akathists, prayer chants. The reverent love of the people moved the St. Demetrius of Rostov (it is precisely to him that the authorship of the folk antiquography) to create a collection, which is completely dedicated to the glory in honor of the intercessor of our zeal. For this prayer, the saint took the psalter of Tsar David as a prototype, which is why we, according to the prayers collected here, are traditionally called chants.
