“Look at him” - a book about the loss of a child. This is a documentary prose, in which Anna Starobinets leads the reader through all the horror and grief, which she once experienced-from the moment when she is reported on the examination that the “fetus” has no chance to survive, until the moment of final farewell to the baby, not living for several minutes.
On the one hand, this is a very personal book, a detailed and sometimes merciless introspection, a look at maternal despair from the inside. On the other hand, this is a challenge to the Russian medical system, disagreement with the inhumanity of its approach, the call to establish an ethical protocol.
