The monograph is the first comprehensive study of the pagan opposition of the Christianization of the Roman Empire in the period of late antiquity in the domestic scientific literature. On the basis of a wide corps of sources (works of pagan and Christian historians, monuments of oratory, works of the Church Fathers, Hagiographic literature, Late Roman legislation, as well as data from epigraphy and papyrology), the author conducted an analysis of the social composition of the opposition in the Western and Eastern House of the Roman Empire, revealed the reasons for the formation of the formation Oppositions, the main stages of its activities. Particular attention in the monograph is paid to the definition of socio-economic and political factors of inter-religious confrontation in recent centuries. The main text of the work is complemented by applications devoted to individual narrow-minded manifestations of the pagan opposition: the struggle of paganism and Christianity in individual cities of the empire, the cult preferences of the Late Roman nobility, pagan intelligentsia and other questions.
