Archbishop of Averky (Taushev) (1906-1976) - Bishop of the Russian Orthodox Church abroad (ROCZ), Archbishop of Siracuse and Trinity, theologian and spiritual writer. Born in Kazan, in the 1920s his family emigrated to Bulgaria. He began his ministry in Carpathian Russia (at that time - in the territory of Czech -Slovakia), then in Yugoslavia, Austria and after the war - in Germany. In 1951 he moved to the United States and began to teach, and then headed the seminary in Jordanville. He remained the permanent rector of this spiritual center of Russian emigration until his death.
Archbishop. Averky led the magazine Orthodox Russia, where, inter alia, he led the section “Questions and answers”. The accumulated amount of specific issues sent by Orthodox readers to the editor, and the specific answers of the Vladyka Averkia compiled a kind of reference to Orthodox piety, which the first publishers called the practical encyclopedia of churchness, strung on a certain thread of practical needs.
