The process of modernization, reforming various social institutions, also affects such a traditional social institution as the Russian Orthodox Church.
This applies, among other things, monastery communities. Obviously, those challenges of the present that affect church organizations today, including monasteries, are catalysts of response actions, eventually transforming into social practices. A collective monograph, written by sociologists and economists, is one of such works that considers social and economic practices that develop in modern monasteries under the influence of modernization processes.
The book presents theoretical chapters considering the modern research discourse on monasticism and monasteries, the results of three research cases are given, the object of which in different years was an Orthodox monastery, the relationship “Monastery and the type of economic relations”, “Monastery and tradition” are analyzed. , "Monastery and the city", "Monastery and the Internet". The final part of the work considers the stages and methods of calculation regarding what could be called an effective "church project". The latter is analyzed in relation to the present, as well as in the context of historically established ideas about the economic activities of monastic communities proposed by the Holy Prp. Joseph Volotsky, etc. Nile Sorsky.
