Sergey Mikhailovich Soloviev (1820–1879), an outstanding historian, rector of Moscow University, academician of the Imperial St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences. In “Notes” the author talks about the events of his life: children"s years in the priest’s family, training in the gymnasium, the service of the tutor in children of Prince M.N. Golitsyn, student and internal orders of Moscow University. The memoirist gives vivid characteristics to many well -known contemporaries whom he personally knew (M.P.Pogodin, T.N. Granovsky, K.S. Aksakov, D.N.Sverbeev, etc), not rarely adding quite revealing information about them. It is no less critical in relation to Nicholas I and Alexander II, his assessment of their reign is an impartial historical source. For the first time, S.M. Solovyov were published in 1907 in the magazine Bulletin of Europe, in 1915 they published a separate book. The new edition is supplemented by a preface, comments and signs of the candidate of historical sciences L.A. Mozhaeva
