Ivan Vladimirovich Lopukhin (1756-1816), Russian philosopher, publisher, memoirist, prominent representative of Freemasonry, real secret adviser, senator, philanthropist. In 1784-85 He served as chairman of the Moscow Criminal Chamber, advocated moderation in punishments, was an opponent of the death penalty. The author and translator of several works on Freemasonry, collaborated with N. I. Novikov, was a member of a friendly scientist society, opened a printing house where he published mystical and religious literature. Since 1796, the state secretary under Paul I, since 1797, served in the Senate, conducted audits in various provinces on duty: he set out the results in his letters, many of which were included in this book. The memoirist devoted individual chapters of the “Notes” to the description of his judicial activity, relationships at court and the main ideas of Freemasonry
