The book opens up a series of publications dedicated to the history of monastic abode of the Russian Orthodox Church created by the labors of monks for centuries. Particular attention is paid to the laurels-Kiev-Pecherskaya and Trinity-Sergius-the Solovetsky monastery and monasteries of the North and North-East Rus". The author attracted an extensive documentary material, used many literary sources and managed to build a presentation in an easy form for perception. The book addresses such a little -studied topic as the organic unity of the monastery complex and the environment. The publication is colorfully designed.
