This book tells about a unique man-K. N. Wendland, Metropolitan John, who in 1967-1984. He headed the Yaroslavl and Rostov diocese.
The first part of the book is built on the memoirs of Vladyka John, who left memoirs about the people close to him - parents, sister - the nun Euphrosyne, the spiritual father - Metropolitan Guria (Egorov) The own diary notes of K. Wendland, as well as the letters of his like -minded people, colleagues allowed the author not only to reconstruct the biography of Metropolitan John on the basis of the first published materials, but also to reveal the little -known pages of the history of the spiritual confrontation of the Russian Orthodox Church on the time of “Population of Souls” in Russia , in the 1920-1970s.
In the second part of the book, the author shares his own memories of a marvelous old man.
