Alexandra Nikolaevna Melnikova (nee Sakho-Ustimovich) (1848-1902), poetess and writer, memoirist. Her memories are covered by the period of the 1850-890s, vast geography (Kursk, Poltava provinces, Crimea, Caucasian mineral waters, Moscow, Petersburg) In family life, the author was destined to face sudden changes, and she, the daughter of wealthy landowners, had to look for a salary in foreign houses. But readiness for new experience, a keen interest in people, sometimes the simplest rank, helped to overcome complex circumstances, enriched their lives with meetings with interesting people: P. I. Tchaikovsky, M.K. Bashkirtseva, L. N. Tolstoy - Melnikova left interesting reviews About them in their notes. The book reflects the daily life of different social strata of that time: nobles, military personnel, peasants, intelligentsia.
