Saint Filaret (Drozdov), Metropolitan of Moscow and Kolomensky (1782-1867), made a great contribution to the development of the Russian Church in the 19th century, he was an active participant in the state and cultural life of the Russian Empire for decades. This publication is completed by the long -term project of PSTGU - "Chronicle of the life and ministry of St. Filaret (Drozdov)" in the seven volumes, which was completed in 2020. The articles collected in one volume and essays about the life and ministry of St. Filaret reveal and explain the most important aspects of life and the most important aspects of life and Service of the saint, as well as important problems of his era, to the solution of which he was involved. Much attention is paid to the characteristics of the theological work of St. Filaret, his participation in the church life of Russia and relations with Russian sovereigns. Essays on the main stages of the life of the saint are presented, about his participation in the development of Russian national culture. In general, the composition of articles and essays proposes the understanding of the phenomenon of Filaret - theologian, church figure and old man, whose personality is partly characterized by our entire 19th century. The book can be used as a textbook in the study of the history of the Russian Church and the history of Russia of the XIX century
