Nikolai Gavrilovich Chernyshevsky (1828–1889)-Russian philosopher-materialist of the 19th century, revolutionary democrat, theorist of critical utopian socialism, scientist, encyclopedist, literary critic, publicist and writer.
“Letters to Alexander II” - a collection of letters addressed to Tsar Alexander II, but not sent directly by the author, but published by him as articles in various magazines of that time, in connection with which Chernyshevsky called them “letters without address” (not those in need of the addressee) Chernyshevsky openly speaks of the peasant reform of 1861, does not hide his views on the relations of the people and power and predicts a revolutionary revolution in Russia. The book is a valuable source for the study of philosophical ideas, historical views, life ideals and beliefs of the great Russian philosopher and revolutionary-democrat of the 19th century
