Alexander Nikolaevich Engelhardt - scientist, writer and public figure of the 60-70s of the XIX century - the general public is known mainly as the author of the “letters from the village”. These are indeed thorough letters, the first of which was sent in 1872 to the "Domestic Notes" from the family estate of the Engelhards - the village of Batishchevo Dorogobuzhsky district of the Smolensk region. And then for ten years, readers "03" expected the publication of the next letter. The twelfth letter was already printed in the Vestnik Europe - "Domestic Notes" closed. “Letters” were published at one time by a book that Lenin and Marx were carefully studied, thanks to which “letters from the village” were reprinted after 1917
