“Kindness” is one of the most famous collections of patristic texts in the Orthodox tradition. Initially, he was compiled by St. Macarius of Corinthian and edited by the Monk Nicodemus Svyatogorz at the end of the 18th century. Saint Theophanes (Govorov), the recluse of Vyshensky (1815-1894), the great Russian spiritual writer, made a translation of the Greek “kindness” into modern Russian, at the same time reducing, but also significantly expanding the composition of the collection compared to Greek. The uniqueness of this publication lies in the fact that quotes from the Holy Scriptures, which are St. Theophanes retained in his text in Church Slavonic, they are also given in Russian - in a canonical synodal translation. The publishers carefully reacted to the text of the saint and carried out the translation of the Slavic quotes of the Holy Scripture into footnotes, preserving the original text and showing the care of a modern reader, not always familiar with the Church Slavonic language
