The Cathedral of St. Petersburg - the heart of the spiritual life of the city, is named Kazan in honor of its revered shrine - the famous list with the miraculous icon of the Mother of God. The icon itself was revealed in Kazan on July 8, 1579 after a devastating fire that destroyed most of the city and especially Russian streets. The Tatars attributed a fire to the anger of God for the conquest of the Kazan kingdom and hoped that these disasters would lead to the removal of Russians from Kazan and a new enslavement - after all, the Russians paid tribute to the Tatars for 200 years. However, in this way the Lord glorified and approved the Orthodox Church in the Kazan country
