Jataki is the general name of the numerous thates -signs that tell about the earthly reincarnations of the Buddha Shakyamuni. It is believed that the Buddha recalled all stories in a state of enlightenment and told the students who later recorded them.
The form of the story of jatak is very diverse, how diverse their plots are also diverse. Many of these stories in one form or another, overcoming the time and distance, have become an integral part of the ancient and medieval oriental and European tales that have survived to the present day. These are, for example, "wandering" stories about the king, who understood the language of birds, about a cat-monk, about a shakal-advantage, about a dancing groom, about a shakal praised the singing of a raven, about a donkey in a lion"s skin, about a herb that transferred fish to a pond, About a helpful fool, etc.
This book is a collection of translations of one hundred and fifty jatak, many of which are published in Russian for the first time.
For a wide range of readers interested in Buddhism and ancient Indian literature
