Theophylact, Archbishop of Ohrids in the Byzantine province of Bulgaria (second half. XI - early XII century) - a large Byzantine theologian. Originally from about. Evebei, for a long time he served as a deacon at the temple of St. Sophia in Constantinople and Rhetor. His duty was to explain the Holy Scriptures and make instructive words on behalf of the Patriarch. Having become the archbishop of the Bulgarian Church, Blessed Theophylact showed himself a wise and solid shepherd.
Most of the creations of Blessed Theophylact are interpretations of the Holy Scriptures, in which it follows the traditions of the fathers of the Antioch school, especially St. John Chrysostom. The work of the blissful Theophylact Bulgarian, dedicated to the interpretation of the four -gospel, is available to the understanding of all and simple, and at the same time, from ancient times, it is revered by the Russian Church by the creation of truly fatherly and Orthodox, correctly conveying the meaning of the gospel sayings.
