Igumeniya Varvara (Trofimova, 1930-2011) is a famous ascetic of the 20th century. Mother personifies a whole era of Russian female monasticism. She was rightfully called the hegumen of all Russia. For more than fifty years, she worked in a monastic rank, of which for more than forty years he had a heavy cross of the abbess of the Pyukhtitsky monastery.
Pyukhtitsky Monastery was the only female abode that was not closed in Soviet times, from the walls of which the majority of the abbess of convents in different dioceses of the Russian Orthodox Church came out. In the Pyukhtitsky monastery, genuine Christian love, kindness, hospitality, spiritual nobility were combined with deep monastic work - unceasing prayer.
Bishop of Egorievsky Tikhon (Shevkunov), the Vicar of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, the governor of the Moscow Sretensky Stavropigial Monastery, spoke of Mother Barbara: "Wisdom and humility, sincere simplicity in everything - that was struck in it. And yet - the desire for beauty. In the temple, in the monastery garden, in the cattle yard - wherever her care extended. But the main thing is her desire for beauty in the souls of the sisters handed to her from God ... ".
The book from the series "on guard of faith" presents a brief biography of the abbess Barbara, the memories of the people who knew her, instructions and advice.
