The book is dedicated to the problem of the formation of the autonomy of the Japanese Orthodox Church in the 20th century that was not worn in domestic and foreign historiography. The experience of building a national local church in Japan, the foundation of which was laid in the last third of the XIX century by the head of the Russian spiritual mission of St. Equal. Nikolai (Kasatkin), is a remarkable success of the Russian missionary, indicating the possibility of a deep understanding of two such different peoples - Russian and Japanese. However, the political cataclysms of the 20th century, who explores Russia and Japan in two opposing camps, interrupted the ties of the Japanese Orthodox with the maternal Russian church for several decades, posed the problem of both material and jurisdictional survival before the young and non -blessed national church organization.
