To great importance for the monks of the goddessed chapters of St. Callista Angelidu or catapiogita, who did not enter the Russian translation of kindness, executed by St. Theophanes of the recluse, showed me in 1999 a monk Lazar from Russian on the Athos of the Monastery of St. Great Mecure Panteleimon. He also gave me the Slavic text of kindness, printed from a translation made by the elder Paisius Velichkovsky. When I managed to get acquainted with the Slavic translation of the chapter On Divine Unity and Contemplative Life, St. Callist Angelikud became one of my favorite spiritual authors, after which he followed the acquaintance with the translations of the works of St. Dionysius Areopagita, etc. Maxim the Confessor. After many years of secluded life in the Caucasus and the practice of Jesus prayer, it was still not clear to me that the further direction of the spiritual searches was quite clear. Thanks to the wise monastic council, hesihasm, as a unique direction in the depths of spiritual life, was opened to my heart. With the advent of excellent translations into Russian of little-known creations of the Holy Fathers-Isihists in the book “The Way to Holy Silence”, “Byzantine Ishihastic Texts”, under the general edition of A.G. Dunaeva, Works of St. Dionysius of Areopagita with the interpretations of Maxim the Confessor Ave. in the trans. G.M. Prokhorova, spiritual practice appeared more integral and clear. Avoiding the many complex speech turns and poetic comparisons characteristic of the Greek Isihaste tradition, it seemed to me not superfluous to make up a certain sample or a presentation of the main positions of isihasm, practically necessary for the contemplative life. I bring heart gratitude to all the translators of this deep spiritual heritage, which gave our generation of monasticism the opportunity to practically learn not only prayer work, but also with all kinds of humility to proceed at least to the foot of the highest spiritual peaks - deification and contemplative life in the salvation of the soul by the grace of the Lord Jesus.
