The future founder of asceticism was born in 1807 in the Bryanchanin family, who had a good condition and had noble roots. The born boy was called Demetrius, at first he was brought up at home, studied successfully in all sciences and subjects, but in his soul he understood that he wanted to connect his life with the monastery. However, parents, especially the father, wanted to give him a good education - at the age of fifteen, the young man was given to the engineering school in St. Petersburg. Dmitry Bryanchaninov was the best student, after the end he received the rank of lieutenant.
Dmitry entered military service, but a serious illness prevented him from continuing it, he was actively looking for the meaning of life, but neither an interesting pastime, nor the composition of the verses, they gave him reassurance, he reached for monasticism. In 1827, he became a novice of the Alexander Svirsky Monastery, for several years he changed several monasteries, following his spiritual mentors. In 1831, the monastic tonsure of the novice of Demetrius in the Vologda province took place, Ignatius began to call him, soon he became a hierodeacon, and then - a hieromonk.
